2018 BronzeLens Film Festival Hosts Family Day

ATLANTA – August 17, 2018 – The ninth annual BronzeLens Film Festival (BronzeLens) will take place August 22-26, 2018 at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis. Once again, the festival will include Family Day sponsored by Fulton County Arts & Culture on Saturday, August 25 at 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Auburn Avenue Research Library (101 Auburn Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30303). This kid-friendly workshop and screening will not only be entertaining and informative – it is also FREE!

Activities for Family Day include the following:

  • 12:30 PM Registration/Check-In
  • 1:00 PM ASIFA-South Animation Workshop
    A Hands-on workshop focused on the art of animation.
  • 2:00 PM Film Screening – The Water Princess
    The Water Princess is a short-animated film, based on supermodel Georgie Badiel’s childhood in Africa. This screening will be facilitated by Dr. Collette Hopkins, of Diaspora U.
  • 2:30 PM A Conversation on Animation with Maya Penn
    Maya Penn is an 18-year-old animator and the CEO of Maya’s Ideas, an eco-friendly fashion company. She will facilitate a discussion on art, activism, and the entrepreneurial spirit.
  • 3:15 PM Talking About Acting with Priah Ferguson
    Actress Priah Ferguson is known for her breakout role as Erica Sinclair on Season 2 of Stranger Things. She will facilitate a discussion with actress Karen Ceesay, (her TV mom) about their professional careers and the television and film industry.

About the BronzeLens Film Festival

BronzeLens Film Festival of Atlanta, Georgia, is a non-profit organization, founded in 2009, that is dedicated to bringing national and worldwide attention to Atlanta as a center for film and film production for people of color. Its mission is two-fold: to promote Atlanta as the new film mecca for people of color, and to showcase films and provide networking opportunities that will develop the next generation of filmmakers. Since its inception, BronzeLens producers have brought national and worldwide attention to Atlanta, helping to showcase the city as a leader in the thriving film industry.

In 2017, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved BronzeLens as a qualifying festival for the Short Film Awards category. The short film that receives the BronzeLens Best Short Award may now be eligible to enter the Academy’s Short Subject competition for the concurrent season.
